Volcano of La Palma claims first fatality | Abroad

The man from Corazoncillo, along with nine other volunteers, was allowed to enter the affected area near Los Llanos de Aridane to clean houses. El Paso mayor Sergio Rodriguez tells EFE that – to his knowledge – the man owned the home. According to the EFE news agency, it is still being investigated whether the fall during the work is the actual cause of death or whether other factors played a role.

Rodriguez says that for a few days now, teams of usually four to five volunteers have been given permission to clean the roofs. Usually these teams consist of owners of the houses themselves. According to emergency services, there have already been several accidents in which people have been injured because they fell from roofs while clearing ashes.
