American voice actor Kevin Conroy died of cancer at the age of 66. Conroy is known as the voice of Batman in a variety of games, movies and television series.
“Kevin Conroy, the iconic voice of Batman and a good friend to us all, has passed away,” it read. DC statement. Conroy first portrayed Bruce Wayne and his alter ego Batman in 1992 on the animated series Batman: The Animated Series. Subsequently, he crawled back into the skin of the masked crusader for the TV series Batman Beyond and Justice League, among others. For the 2016 animated film Batman: The Killing Joke, Conroy received a Behind The Voice Actors award along with the other leads. Even when he wasn’t playing the lead, it often came to mind cameos in Batman media, for example as Batman or Zur-En-Arrh, Thomas Wayne or Bruce Wayne.
Since 2011, he has entered a new medium like Batman, namely video games. Conroy played Batman and Bruce Wayne in the popular Batman Arkham video games. He also provided his signature voice for Injustice 2 and Lego DC Super-Villains, among others.
Mark Hamill, a frequent opponent of Conroy as the Joker, writes in the same statement: “Kevin was a phenomenal actor. He defined Batman for several generations. (…) His rhythms, nuances, tone and intonation; all of this made him better too. He was the ideal partner. (…) He will always be my Batman.”
