Vodafone sells the world’s first SMS, in the form of an NFT it will be won by the winner of a charity auction

Mania around NFT also arrived at the British telecommunications group Vodafone. She decided to sell the first SMS that was sent in the world. In the form of an NFT (non-fungible token), the winner gets it auctions of the French auction house Aguttes.

The world’s first SMS was brief. It is a wish “Merry Christmas”, which was received on December 3, 1992 on his phone Orbitel 901 by a former Vodafone employee Richard Jarvis. The message was sent to him by the developer Neil Papworth, who worked at a supply company for Vodafone on a new communication protocol for sending text messages.

The winner of the auction, which will take place on December 21, will receive, in addition to the NFT, a file with a replica of the communication protocol documenting the sending and receiving of this SMS and a 3D animation showing the mobile phone with the received message.

Cryptene ether will be paid for NFT at auction. The auction hall assumes that the NFT will auction up to 100 to 200 thousand euros. Vodafone donates the proceeds to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to support people who have been forced to flee their homes or face persecution due to war.
