According to Kohout, fixed internet of up to one Gbit / s is currently available to 1.6 million households in 109 cities. The basis is the optical network, which the company bought three years ago from the largest cable operator UPC.

“After a generational change, the capacity of Vodafone’s Internet network should increase 5.5 times. The download speed will be up to ten Gbit / s and the upload will be up to six Gbit / s instead of the current 200 Mbit / s. Network latency, ie response time, will be reduced from 20 milliseconds to one to five milliseconds, “said Kohout.

Customers will need to replace the modem to achieve higher speeds.

Cooperation with T-Mobile
In March, Vodafone announced that it would build almost a million optical internet connections in cooperation with rival T-Mobil, enabling speeds of over one gigabit per second.

In addition to joint construction, the built connections in Prague, Brno and other cities will be mutually accessible. After the completion of the project, Vodafone will offer a multigigabit connection to more than half of Czech households.
