Vodafone Ghana is making significant strides in the Western region with its flagship initiative ‘Grow Western 2023’. This comprehensive program aims to empower clients, improve healthcare services, promote technology literacy and promote overall community growth.
One of the highlights of the initiative is the Grow Western Girls in STEM programme, which provided free STEM and robotics training to 50 young girls between the ages of 12 and 15 from Sekondi-Takoradi. The goal was to equip these girls with robotics, web development and coding skills that align with the larger vision of the Grow Western 2023 initiative to empower the next generation.
Rita Agyeiwaa Rockson, Vodafone Ghana Foundation Manager, expressed the company’s commitment to promoting gender equality in STEM education. She believes that by supporting girls with resources and knowledge, they can develop the skills they need to succeed in STEM fields. The program aims to empower girls in the Western region, ultimately leading to exceptional results.
The intervention of the Vodafone Ghana Foundation was welcomed by the Metropolitan Director of Education, Sekondi-Takoradi, Madam Sally Nellie Coleman. She recognizes the importance of introducing girls to fields such as technology and engineering and welcomes Vodafone’s efforts to make STEM education available and free in the district.
Vodafone Ghana’s commitment to the Western Region goes beyond education. The Grow Western 2023 initiative also addresses healthcare needs. Rural ultrasound scanning services ensure that pregnant women in remote areas have access to critical antenatal care. In addition, Homecoming events help insolvent patients settle their hospital bills, allowing them to be reunited with their families. Vodafone Ghana Foundation offers free National Health Insurance cards to those facing financial challenges, further supporting the community.
To promote the health and well-being of the community, Vodafone Ghana is hosting ‘Healthfest’, an event where residents are provided with free medical check-ups. The company is also implementing the “Vodafone Retail Transformation” project, creating community stores across the region.
Vodafone Ghana’s ‘Grow Western 2023’ initiative demonstrates the company’s commitment to creating lasting positive change in the Western region. Through its multifaceted approach, the company aims to empower individuals, improve access to healthcare and promote overall community development.
