Books – Alaa Hajjaj:
A source at Vodafone Egypt said that the company is ready to send mobile towers to the city of Rafah on the border with the Gaza Strip to increase coverage to the extent permitted by the company’s licenses.
The source added that the company is awaiting the necessary approvals to move, and that the matter has been the subject of technical study since yesterday evening.
Since yesterday, the Israeli occupation forces have cut off all communications services from the Gaza Strip, while striking the communications network infrastructure there.
Yesterday, a number of social media pioneers called on Egyptian telecommunications companies to extend their network services and coverage to the sector in order to compensate for the cut of the telecommunications network there, amid questions about the possibility of this happening.
According to the source, if companies are allowed to provide coverage, this will be for areas not exceeding 10 km from the tower location, which is the technical maximum signal reach.
He stated that the service depends primarily on the presence of systems with operators in the Gaza Strip that allow them to operate their roaming system so that they can pick up the signal of Egyptian networks.
Vodafone Egypt intends to provide the service free of charge, and the technical readiness has been confirmed and the launch signal is awaited, according to the source.
