Vocally Challenging Concert Program: Katrina Gupalo and Edgars Vilcāns Perform Legendary Songs and Support Ukrainian Soldiers

Katrina Gupalo says: “It is by far the most vocally challenging concert program I have ever had. For example, the title song of the program – the legendary “Livu” “Zimtā valoda” with its wide range is a test worthy of Freddie Mercury for any singer. On the other hand, “Lake” by Harald Sīmanis and the trilogy from the rock opera “Lāčplēsis” by Sigmar Liepiņš are so emotionally saturated that you have to give your whole soul to sing them.”

The premiere of the program symbolically took place in the hometown of Edgars Vilcāns, Koknese, a day before Katrīna received the highest award of the Latvian state – the Order of Three Stars. The following concerts will take place on September 3 at the Culture House of Tukuma, on September 23 at the Valmiera concert hall “Akustika”, on September 30 at the Mazmežotne manor, on October 28 at the Jelgava Culture House and on November 11 at the “Zeit” concert hall in Līgatne. After that, the two musicians will go to perform concerts in Prague, Budapest and Vienna.

At the concerts of Katrīnas Gupalo and Edgars Vilcāns, listeners will also hear more romantic compositions, such as Raimonds Paul’s masterpiece love ballad “Balta saule”, as well as Latvian and Ukrainian folk songs. The music created by Katrīna and Edgar will also be played – the song “Dur Prom”, which became a radio hit and was the TOP 10 of the most played songs in Latvia for 13 weeks, playing on nine Latvian radio stations, as well as the anthemic compositions “Resistance” and “Kamēr pret sauli kāpu” with Māras Čaklā poetry.

Along with the concert series, Katrīna and Edgars continue the charity campaign “Latvian musicians – Ukrainian soldiers!”, which collects donations to support the Ukrainian volunteer combat unit “Caucasus”, most of which are soldiers of the Ukrainian army, who have been defending Ukraine in battles in Donbass since 2014. The “Caucasus” combat unit was created in 2022, operates in all war zones and is included in the Self-Defense Forces of Ukraine. To protect Ukraine, they need two car radios, drones, military uniforms and rain ponchos.

It is possible to donate to Ukrainian soldiers here.

Tickets for the concerts are available at “Biļešu paradīze” ticket offices and on the Internet.
