…that was what happened at the weekend in the wonderful natural setting of the botanical garden in two concerts with the hard-working Linzer Hard Choir on the pavilion stage. A specially selected theme was offered, dedicated to the composing siblings Fanny and Felix Mendelssohn and their qualitatively equal song creations. Felix liked to label his songs “to be sung outdoors”, so that the right location also ensured a good atmosphere.
The romantically beautiful choral music was loosened up by texts from the correspondence between the two, sensitively read by Stefanie Altenhofer and Friedrich Eidenberger from the Landestheater Linz. The harmonious, creative and respectful relationship between the Mendelssohns clearly emerged from the lines, which may represent one of the rare cases in music history. The hard choir used its extensive creative repertoire with all the passion that one is used to from this elite ensemble. With devotion, strong intonation, word clarity and dynamic flexibility, it felt the intensity of a quite natural expressiveness intended by the authors.
An exquisite evening as a treat, where everything (including the weather) went well, as the Mendelssohn song so beautifully says: “In the countryside fresh courage awakens, in the countryside everything goes well”. G.Sz.
