A fire broke out on Saturday evening in a house above bicycle shop Piet Daemen in Vlodrop. The residents managed to get themselves to safety.

The first report of the fire to Tussen de Bruggen came in at the emergency center around 8:30 pm. Within minutes it was scaled up to ‘big fire’.
Under control
The elderly couple tried to put out the fire, a fire spokesman said. That didn’t work and they fled the building. In the meantime, the fire brigade with several fire vehicles was present and the fire was signaled around 21:00.
Uninhabitable
The residents cannot return home. Their house is uninhabitable. “They will be housed elsewhere. The bicycle shop also suffered smoke and water damage,” said the fire service spokesman.
It is not yet known how the fire started.
