He has been preparing at the Finnish center for almost three weeks. “We are here for 18-19 days and on one hand I would count the days during which the sun shone,” Maura Pini’s trustee told the Slovak media.
How was the training in Levi?
Everything is going well. I’ve been here for a few weeks, since October 31st. We also trained slalom and slaughter. I’m ready for the weekend.
Have you had more training sessions than in previous seasons?
I’m not sure how many days we had. However, I feel that it is the same. I’m not a person who keeps track of exact numbers.

Did you have another program in Levi?
There’s not much you can do here. When I had a day off, I rested or regenerated. We were looking for reindeer, the sun was just shining, we were lucky.
We are here for 18-19 days and on one hand I would count the days during which the sun shone. It’s mentally demanding. I wouldn’t go on vacation here. I came for skiing. That is the primary goal. And I’m already looking forward to going home.
I was mostly skiing. The conditions were very good. However, the preparation of the hill was not ideal, it was soft. I have an advantage, as I tried the hill before the race.
Who did you meet at the training?
We rode with Norwegians, Germans, Italians and Maťa Dubovská from the Czech Republic. I was not slow in time…
How are the reindeer you won in Levi in the past?
I vented my head. It was a diversification of time in Finland. They are nice animals. They are mine, thanks to them I have memories of victories. We were looking forward to seeing them.
Do you already have new names in mind if you win this weekend as well?
If it works out, I already have a name. I won’t tell him in advance.
Last year’s two victories. Why did it come out then?
I did my best. It was also because I trained in Finland for a long time. Two-three weeks just a hotel-hill and still around. That’s why we missed Lech this year. We preferred to train slalom and obráka, stayed focused and did not travel.
We tried to gain experience from last year. That’s when it came out, we’ll see what happens over the weekend. I believe that we have made the right decision and I will attack the highest places.

Did you watch last year’s victory videos?
Yes, many times. We do it often.
What is your current form in slalom? Are you 100%?
I feel good. In the race you will see where I belong. In preparation, we did everything we needed. I’m 100 percent slalom ready.
What do you dare in Levi?
Very high after last year. I want to attack the highest rungs. I’ll be happy to show my ride and say on Sunday that I put everything into it over the weekend. Then I will be satisfied.
Last Saturday you missed a parallel giant slalom in Lech. Why?
We decided that we would focus more on the preparation of the giant and the slalom. There is nothing more to it. We didn’t want to travel, we preferred to focus on training.

Did you watch the parallel giant slalom in Lech?
I am positive that I did not go there. I do not regret. The decision came gradually over several days, not minutes. I watched the race. It was nice to be on the other side.
What did the change of coach Livio Magoni to Mauro Pini bring you?
Every trainer is different, he has different methods and style of communication. It’s hard to talk about what’s better. But it is definitely different. I’m happier and it helped me.
