KVITFJELL – American skier Mikaela Shiffrin finished fourth in the super giant slalom in Kvitfjelle and is still waiting to equal Ingemar Stenmark’s record for the number of World Cup wins. Austrian Cornelia Hütterová won.
The reigning Italian world champion Marta Bassinová was absent from Kvitfjelle. After Thursday’s training, she went home from Norway due to the sudden death of her sister-in-law. The day after her 30th birthday, she apparently succumbed to a heart attack while sleeping.
Her husband Matteo Bassino, Marta’s older brother, found her lifeless in bed on Thursday morning in his home in via Boves in Borgo San Dalmazzo.
Sara Fina left behind two children. In the past, she was active as a cross-country skier and also competed in lower-level races.
