VLC media player: The best tips & tricks

If there are videos locally on the PC, a double click is enough to play them in VLC media player. Every VLC user can do this finger exercise. But what many do not know, VLC can also stream. There is the function “Open network stream” under “Media”, for those in a hurry [STRG] + [N]. What you still need is the right link, for example to a YouTube video. Copy it into the input field and click on “Playback”.

You can specify a few details via “Show more options”. For example, you can avoid annoying stuttering with a simple trick by increasing the value for the intermediate storage. The “network caching” is usually set to “1000 ms”, just double it to smooth the stream.
