“Often the songs become a kind of emotional sketches for my future performances. Such as watercolor sketches,” reveals Vladislav Nastavshev, who is known to the Latvian public not only as a bright, uncompromising director, but also as a composer who performs his own songs.
The Ventspils concert will feature songs by Mikhail Kuzmin and Semyon Hanin, music from the director’s productions and other works.
Vladislav Nastavshev was born in Riga. He received his first musical education at the Pāvuls Jurjānis Music School, where he studied violin and piano. Attended private lessons with theater teacher Lidija Stiebra. He studied acting in the acting department of the St. Petersburg State Theater Institute under the direction of director Lev Dodin. He studied directing at the London School of Theater Arts.
Vladislav Nastavshev’s performances, which are often extremely provocative, are characterized by aesthetically pleasing but cruel poetics, which forces actors to balance on the limits of their emotional and physiological ability.
During his career, Vladislav Nastavshev has been nominated and received several times Gamblers’ night awards. In 2012, he won a gold medal in the Prague Quadrennial About the scenography of the show production Miss Julia, while in 2017 his work Kuzmin. Trout pierced the ice nominated for the Russian Theater Award Golden mask category Great form show of the year.
Even in the fragile conditions of the pandemic, Vladislav Nastavshev continues to perform in both Latvia and Russia.
