Bratislava (From our reporter) – He had a half-hour debate with his new assistants, he also saw some cuts from the last matches. Then Vladimír Růžička appeared in front of journalists and told why he decided to work at Slovan and what plans he has with the staff.
How did you take the offer?
I respect her enormously because I am going to a club that has huge ambitions. And I will do everything to meet expectations. It’s a huge chance for me. Slovan is a club that had a name and will have one. It’s my first job abroad, but even though Slovakia is already a different country, it’s still connected to me. When Slovaks play football or hockey, I cheer for them. I also have many friends here.
Earlier you said that Slovakia is far away and you don’t really want to come here because of your family.
So the courtship was always half-baked, I didn’t even deal with anyone. Here it was clear cut and I knew I wanted it. I didn’t hesitate for a second.
How was your family leaving you?
This morning I felt really bad leaving. I already had it in my youth that if I landed somewhere, I would want to stay there. Not jumping from club to club. Although I haven’t been doing well lately. I would like to dock here.
What game do you want to introduce yourself?
One to entertain people. We will want to play our best hockey, try to forecheck, but we have to be ready after losing the puck. I saw some footage that the team was very hot going forward, but the opponent was running into their counterattacks.

Will you reach out to the staff?
The first match is already tomorrow, there it will look like so far. I discussed the players with the management, but I’m going to the first training session on Friday and I want to get to know them. I don’t even know what kind of player this is. However, I have to get to know them quickly, because it’s about results and the fan won’t have to wait very long. But don’t let anyone think that I’m going to come here and change everything. I will work with the people who are here and we will do everything to get it started. Tomorrow’s game will be difficult because I don’t know the players, but we will manage somehow.
Will you bring a Czech player to Slovan?
I’m not picking any yet. I came up with the fact that there are players here who have been selected. What happens later remains to be seen. But again, there aren’t that many free players on the market.
In Slovakia, you spent two years as a player in Dukla Trenčín. How do you remember it?
Fantastic. The two years I played there were probably the two best major league years of my career. I remember it very fondly. I was supposed to go to Jihlava for the war, but Trenčín arranged for me to go here. Matches with Slovan and Košice were always hyped. We have to prepare the players for this, that all the clubs that go against Slovan have nothing to lose and want to beat them.
