Russian President Vladimir Putin will give the Americans Pearl Harbor 2.0 if they don’t stop playing political games and realize that it is Ukraine that is currently holding back the Russian aggressor and protecting Europe.
This was said by the former Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Igor Romanenko, in an interview with OBOZ.UA.
There is strong talk that Vladimir Putin may attack a NATO country, with the Baltic countries most at risk. The Suwalki Corridor, which connects Lithuania and Poland, is believed to be NATO’s weak point. These nearly 100 kilometers separate Belarus from Kaliningrad Oblast.
Romanenko believes that the Russian army currently does not have the necessary grouping of troops to carry out an attack there. To form such a grouping, Putin needs a pause in the war against Ukraine. Romanenko, however, warned the US that if they continued to delay, the Russian president could give them “Pearl Harbor 2.0”, referring to Japan’s surprise attack on the US Navy in Hawaii in World War II.
Romanenko added that for more than 2 years of full-scale war, the Baltic countries, Poland, Romania, Moldova, as well as the US, took measures and better prepared for a potential war against Putin. Thus, Western countries were able to significantly increase their capabilities. In this sense, Trump was right when he demanded that European countries increase defense spending to 4% of GDP. And now some have begun to do it, but it is necessary for all to do it.
Putin only understands force. Remember how Turkey shot down a Russian plane on the Turkish-Syrian border (November 24, 2015). Yes, Erdogan apologized, the Turkish pilots were jailed, and later Turkey started trading with Russia again. But after that, the Russians no longer provoked the Turks. Poland also needs to realize that this is the right approach, Romanenko said. This also applies to other NATO countries.
