Vladimir Putin declared June 24 a day off

MOSCOW, May 29 – RIA Novosti. The president Vladimir Putin declared June 24 a day off, the Kremlin’s press service said.–

On this date, parades in honor of Victory Day will be held in some Russian cities. This day will become idle with the preservation of wages.

AT Moscow at 10 a.m. military equipment will pass through Red Square, and at 22 p.m. artillery salutes will be launched in the city. According to the decree of the head of state, the Ministry of Defense together with the leaders of the regions will determine their venue in different cities.–

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II. However, authorities canceled the traditional military parade on May 9 due to the coronavirus pandemic. It had to be moved so as not to endanger the health of the participants.

The choice of a new date on June 24 is not accidental. On this day in 1945, the legendary Victory Parade took place, when fighters who returned from the fronts marched along Red Square.

As the mayor said earlier Sergey Sobyanin, there will be no free passage to Red Square during the event.–

“Always on the day of the parade came by invitation cards. This time the situation is more complicated. Of course, there will not be free access,” he said.

The mayor also noted that the capital is already fully prepared for preliminary rehearsals.

In recent years, on May 9, the Immortal Regiment campaign was also held across the country. It was a procession during which people carried photographs of their relatives who participated in the Great Patriotic War. The geography and number of processions expanded from year to year.

Because of the pandemic, the event was held online this year.

Nevertheless, the president still proposed to march on July 26, after the parade of the Navy. Putin emphasized that the march would take place only if the epidemiological situation allowed.
