Slovak coach Vladimír Országh ends up at the helm of the Czech hockey team HC Verva Litvínov. Országh’s successor will be the well-known Czech coach Růžička. The iDnes.cz website informed about it, but the Litvínov club has not yet confirmed the coaching change.
Former successful Slovak national team and world champion from Gothenburg 2002 Országh has been working on the bench of the Czech extra-league player from Litvínov since the beginning of last season. In it, he took the eleventh place in the long-term part and failed in the preliminary round of the playoffs on the team from Hradec Králové.
At the beginning of the current season, Litvínov played well, but later a series of losses came and speculation began to replace Országh with the legend of Czech hockey Růžička. It became a reality on Tuesday, despite the fact that Litvínov won the last two matches before the national team break and moved up to tenth place in the table. According to the Czech media, unlike Országh, his assistant Václav Sýkora does not leave Litvínov.
Fifty-eight-year-old Růžička is a pupil of Litvínov hockey. The former great center is the world champion in the jersey of Czechoslovakia from 1985, but also the Olympic winner in the Czech team from Nagano in 1998. As a coach he led the Czechs to the titles of world champions in 2005 and 2010. So far, SK Kadaň has trained in the second highest Czech competition. he previously worked in the extra-league Hradec Králové.
