— You recently signed a new contract with Dynamo until 2028. Share your emotions from this event.
– Very happy. Dynamo is my home club, I always dreamed of playing for the first team. Glad I’m here.
– What’s next?
— To gain a foothold in the main team, play consistently, in order to grow into a top player and go play in Europe.
– What about becoming a champion?
– Certainly! I talk about this in every interview. If we don’t win the championship this season, it will be a failure. We only have one opportunity left to win one trophy, and we must do it.
— What is the level of responsibility in the Dynamo first team?
– Difficult. Because I understand what the fans expect from me. Goals, assists, good play. And if I fail the game, then they will write about it. However, these are the thoughts of others, they do not bother me, because I think to myself. And if I played poorly, then I know it, and I don’t need to talk about it, I analyze myself and deal with it myself.
— For example, this happened in the recent match with Obolon, when you were replaced?
– Yes, I knew that I played poorly. There is always something to work on and room to grow. There is no ceiling. Your ceiling is someone else’s floor. I know that I have to work constantly and prove myself in every training session, in every game. And one must treat praise, as well as criticism, with loyalty.
— Why did Dynamo have such a bad start to this season?
– Honestly, I do not know. Maybe somewhere I was unlucky, somewhere something didn’t work out. This is football: someone wins, someone loses.
— Is your adaptation to “adult football” already completed?
– Don’t know. I can say one thing: I feel very confident on the field, in the team. Only the field will tell how well my adaptation went. But I feel at ease. Yes, it was difficult when I moved from U-19 to the first team, but I went through this stage and withstood all the stress. Its OK now.
— At one time, you refused the option of renting to Chernomorets Odessa and remained in the Dynamo youth team. There is an opinion that you lost a year then…
– May be. Or maybe, on the contrary, this year has been good for me. They called me to Chernomorets three times, right up to the last day of the transfer window. I stayed, counting on a chance that I didn’t get, but I played in the UEFA Youth League – that was also my childhood dream.
But then I accepted the offer to go on loan, moved to Zarya and, I think, did the very right thing.
— Weren’t you afraid of this new challenge for yourself? After all, not everyone manages to “get out” of all these rentals…
– No, I wasn’t afraid. Because I knew that I was going to one of the best teams in Ukraine. In addition, the Zarya coach was counting on me, he gave me a chance. I had to play to return to Dynamo in a form that would allow me to approach the first team. I am very glad that this happened.
— Do you remember how you scored against Dynamo while playing for Zarya?
— Unforgettable emotions. This was my first goal in the UPL.
— No one from Dynamo was offended by you for this goal?
– No. Only in the youth team did the guys joke about the fact that I celebrated this goal too vigorously. (Laughs).
— Last summer Torino showed interest in you. Surprised?
– Yes. The agent said that Torino were interested in me. Then the first offer came and was rejected. Then the second sentence came, after which there was a lull. That’s where it all ended. But I think that after this story they will follow me even more in Europe. Maybe in the end, some more serious club than Torino will come up with an offer. But I need to show myself on the field, and then as it happens, so it will be.
— What championships do you follow?
– England, Italy. Less often Germany. And, of course, I follow the Spanish “Girona”, where Tsygankov and Dovbik play.
— Is the English Championship a priority?
— Yes, I really like this championship.
— What component do you need to improve in order to move there?
– All. First of all, the speed of decision-making, this is very important in top championships.
—Are you tired of comparisons between you and Sidorchuk?
– There is a little. But such comparisons will always exist. Maybe someday I will leave Dynamo, and then someone will also be compared to me. I want to build my history at Dynamo.
— What was the first conversation with Mircea Lucescu about after your return from Zarya?
— The first conversation with him was when the issue of Sidorchuk’s departure was decided. The head coach said that he was counting on me and hoped that everything would work out for me. He showed and told me how to play in this position. And, of course, I wished him good luck.
— What approach does the older generation of Dynamo find towards young football players?
– They always give me advice. They are the soul of the team. These are players who have played many matches in their careers – much more than us. They know more than us. Someone will tell you, someone will sometimes “push you”, but all this must be taken with a positive attitude: if they “shove you”, it means that you need to change something in yourself and listen to your elders.
— When Yarmolenko played for Dynamo before moving to Borussia, you probably served balls?
– Yes, I even have a photo with him from those times.
– How to play with him now?
– Bliss! You give him a pass, he walks 30 meters with the ball, scores, and you get an assist as an asset.
— Are you waiting for an invitation to the Ukrainian national team?
“I’m working on getting that challenge.” But you need to understand that there is very high competition there. What I have in me now is not enough yet. You need to show more to make yourself known and go to the national team. You need to play well and show a good level of football. For now I’m helping the “youth”, but we’ll see. But playing for the national team is, of course, a dream.
