The Latvian LED lighting manufacturer “Vizulo” has already installed more than 25,000 lighting fixtures in Icelandic municipalities worth approximately 7.5 million, the company informs.
“Vizulo” provides the most cost-effective solution for a period of 10 years, which takes into account not only electricity consumption and a special ability to configure lights, for example, not to dazzle road users, but also the ability to see objects in artificial lighting in real colors that can be seen in sunlight.
Jānis Zeltiņš, a member of the board of “Vizulo”, explains: “In Iceland, competitions are created with the primary consideration of the residents’ well-being, for example, so that the lighting installed outside does not shine into the windows of houses, does not dazzle pedestrians, motorists, cyclists. Since the weather in Iceland is often gloomy and the country experiences polar night for five months of the year, high-quality street lighting is especially important. One of the evaluation criteria of the competitions is that the selected lighting diodes accurately reproduce the colors (compared to natural light) of everything not only outdoors, but also indoors. Therefore, an important condition is the high color rendering index (Color Rendering Index – CRI) of the luminaires. Thus, it is achieved that only companies with luminaires that have high-quality diodes can participate in the tenders.”
Installers of lights must be designed in such a way that the light produced by them is fully controlled, without endangering road users with glare and without affecting the comfort of Icelanders in their homes, thus ensuring well-being even in the dark periods of the year.
“Tender applicants are also required to calculate the forecast price of electricity over a 10-year period, which is the most important criterion in Iceland. Respectively, the winner is not the company whose lighting price is the lowest, but the one whose offer is the most advantageous over a 10-year period,” says J. Zeltiņš.
“Vizulo” lights have been installed in Iceland’s largest cities – Reykjavík, Koubavógir, Habnarfjörður, as well as in other towns and villages. Streets, squares, sports fields, parks and parking lots are illuminated with “Vizulo” lamps.
It has already been reported that the consolidated turnover of “Vizulo” in 2021 was 10.17 million euros, but in 2022 it reached a 27% increase or 12.87 million euros.
