Vizhinjam strike: the government argues with the Adani group; Meeting on the 13th – Vizhinjam protest

Thiruvananthapuram ∙ The government is negotiating with the Adani Group to resolve the crisis on the construction of the port of Vizhinjam. The discussion took place on Thursday in the office of the Minister of Ports Ahmed Devarkovil. It is the first time that the government has called the Adani group for discussion. The CEO of the Adani Rajesh Jha Group will be present. The minister said he was ready for any compromise to resolve the crisis and will hold talks with the strike committee.

The issue for discussion will be the request of the Adani group that it suffered a loss of Rs 78.70 crore due to the fishermen’s strike and the government should bear this and the resumption of construction of the port. Adani Ports had written a letter asking the government to support the compensation.

Meanwhile, the strike committee reacted strongly to Vizhinjam International Seaport Limited’s (Whistle) request to recover this loss from the Latin archdiocese of Thiruvananthapuram, which is on strike. Mr. Eugene H. Perera, general caller of the strike committee, said Whistle’s letter is a challenge to the coastal population.

Whistle acts as Adani’s broker and broker. Who will compensate the fishermen for the loss due to the project? He has informed that he will not back down from the strike even with this threat and will continue vigorously. The protest began at the port of the port on August 16, demanding that construction of the port be stopped and that problems including coastal erosion be investigated.

Thiruvananthapuram Archbishop of the Archdiocese Dr. said Thomas J. Neto. The archbishop said he will go to court to get the justice he deserves. He was inaugurating the final session of the Saptati celebrations of the diocese of Alappuzha.

Vizhinjam port project tunnel route: the center returned the scheme provided by the state

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM ∙ The Ministry of the Environment of the Union returned the scheme for the construction of the railway tunnel in the area of the port project of Vizhinjam. Previously, the Center had authorized the rail route by land. However, the state government has submitted an application to change the layout of this in a tunnel.

The railway line crosses the villages of Balaramapuram, Pallichal, Atiannoor and Vizhinjam to Neyyattinkara taluk through an underground tunnel with a length of 9.43 km. But the expert committee, which met last month, took a stand that the authorization issued by the EU’s Environment Ministry in 2014 cannot be changed. The committee said the landscape of the proposed area is out of balance and after studying the 8 recommendations, they also suggested submitting a revised application. This is what the center has returned.

It is also alleged that the government applied for the tunnel without taking into account the risks of accidents and floods. The committee specified that the vibrations caused during the construction of the tunnel were not taken into account and that the tunnel is only 130 meters away from the tidal zone and this is the area used by fishermen.

The diagram says that the total cost of the tunnel is Rs 1060 crore. It is also alleged that the state government hid the reason for choosing the tunnel route by changing the provision.

Meanwhile, Whistler officials said that in the event that the application is rejected by the Center, the detailed design of the tunnel will be submitted to the Center immediately.
