The Hyundai Museum ALT1 in Seoul opens its doors to present to the public live artan exhibition curated by the gallery owner, patron and social activist Sara Zaldívar, together with the Huntress of Art gallery.
“There’s a new trend in the art market in which Spanish artists stand out”, Says Zaldívar. “They are influenced by artists like Murakami or Kaws, by their kawaii or cute works or by the Asian Naif. They were the seed that developed this new movement ”, explains the curator of the exhibition.
Many of these artists try, through their work, to revise figurative painting with lines close to Cartoon. Others use abstraction, where color and harmony are the protagonists. It is almost always about works with a multifocal fonta game where the connotations are posed by the public, who is the one who concludes the work with his perception.
Viva Arte brings together the work of 19 artists who, in most cases, have ceased to emerge to become leading names in contemporary art. There are those who have been on the international circuit for a long time – Javier Calleja, Edgar Plans, Rafa Macarrón or Ana Barriga -, while others have begun to arouse growing interest in the international market – Imon Boy, Maíllo, Moises Yagües, Castiella, Misterpiro, Sol Felpeto, Kike Garcinuño, Zuleta, Ivan Forcadell, TqmXoxo, Jordi Pintó and Jaime Urdiales. So what do they have in common?
The 19 artists have painting as their preferred medium and color in common. “We could say that the common denominator of the selected artists is the very strong use of color, without fearcoloured blocks“, says the commissioner. And adds:”address current issues, with an apparent point naivebut with large doses of criticism of the social environment in which they live. Works that, despite the criticisms, give the viewer a breath of hope “.
One of the objectives of this exhibition is to affirm these creators in a market, the Asian one, which is becoming increasingly important. “live art Research strengthen the presence of Spanish artists in the Asian market. There are creators like Javier Calleja or Edgar Plans who are already a celebrity there. With your presence we help others who are more unknown. Our goal is to tour the show in other countries of the continent in the next year, ”comments Zaldívar.
On the other hand, in addition to the exhibition, Hyundai Museum ALT1 hosts four installations site specific: a room complete with Okuda San Miguel, a space designed by Misterpiro and two murals by the artists Díaz-Faes and Boa Mistura.
