TASS, March 1st. Vityaz near Moscow on Wednesday beat Yaroslavl Lokomotiv in overtime with a score of 1: 0 in the opening match of the first round of the playoff series Fonbet – Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) and won the first victory in the Gagarin Cup in the history of the club.
Vladimir Galuzin scored the only goal in the first minute of overtime. Vityaz goalkeeper Maxim Dorozhko saved 34 shots.
Vityaz advanced to the KHL playoffs for the fourth time. In 2017 and 2020, the Moscow Region club lost a dry series to SKA St. Petersburg, and in 2019 to CSKA Moscow.
According to the results of the regular season, Lokomotiv took third place in the Western Conference, Vityaz became sixth.
The second match of the series up to four wins will take place on March 3 in Yaroslavl.
