The news of the death of the singer and guitarist, 72, was spread by the family through his Facebook page
Vittorio De Scalzi died: the singer, guitarist and songwriter – founder of the progressive rock band The New Trolls – was 72 years old. The news, signed by his wife Mara and their children Armanda and Alberto, was spread through his Facebook page: Vittorio De Scalzi has left us, has reached his Aldebaran. Thank you all for the love you have shown him in all these years. Keep singing at the top of your voice “That evening caress” … he will listen to you. There are two references contained in the message: the star Aldebaran of the constellation of Taurus, which inspired the title of the homonymous song and the New Trolls album released in 1978, and the famous single Quella carzza della sera released in the same year.

The New Trolls and the solo career
Born in Genoa on November 4, 1949 to a restaurateur father and pianist mother, De Scalzi got close to music very early (he started playing the piano when he was only four years old). In the sixties he founded The Trolls together with Pino Scarpettini, with whom he recorded the single Behind the fog. After making his debut as a soloist under the pseudonym Napoleone in 1967 he started the New Trolls with Nico Di Palo (guitar), Gianni Belleno (drums), Giorgio D’Adamo (bass) and Mauro Chiarugi (keyboard). The band, over the course of its career, took part in seven editions of the Sanremo Festival. Parallel to the activity with the New Trolls (disbanded in 1997) De Scalzi was also active as an author for other performers, including Mina, Ornella Vanoni and Anna Oxa. Last year the singer and multi-instrumentalist published a box set celebrating his career entitled Once I was playing in the New Trolls and in 2022 he took part in the documentary The new Genoese school by Claudio Cabona, directed by Yuri Dellacasa and Paolo Fossati. His last live concert dates back to ten days ago: Concerto Grosso for the New Trolls at the Franco Alfano Auditorium in Sanremo.
