The Local Government Board of Vitoria has awarded the contract to carry out the works to create two new bidegorris on Boulevard de Salburua and Avenida de Bruselas in the Vitoria neighborhood of Salburua, to the company Construcciones Aguillo, who will be in charge of carrying out these tasks , for a price of 195,500.56 euros, in an intervention that is financed by European funds.
In a statement, the Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council reported this Friday that the deadline for carrying out the work is four months in an action that will allow the addition of 750 meters of new bicycle lanes to the existing network in Salburua.
In the case of the Salburua boulevard, the cycle path will be created on the parking lane closest to the houses, in the section between the Paseo del Aerodromo and the 8 de marzo avenue. The existing row of parking spaces in this lane will be moved to the end of the second traffic lane, thus creating a segregated cycle path that will link the new bidegorri that has been built parallel to the extension of the tram with the bike lanes of the avenue March 8.
In this way, as the Consistory has explained, connectivity will be improved at a point where several bicycle lanes come together, also increasing the options for reaching the Salburua park entrance by bicycle.
On the other hand, the Avenida de Bruselas bidegorri covers the section that goes from Plaza de La Union to the roundabout that connects with the exits towards Estella and the A-1. The works will replace the current non-segregated bike lanes for vehicular traffic with two bidirectional cycle paths (one on each road), in order to increase the safety of cyclist traffic and each road will now have two lanes for cycling.
Thus, the connection with the Salburua boulevard bike lane will be achieved at the end of the La Unión roundabout and, at the other end, two bus platforms will be built for Tuvisa, one on each road.
CYCLING CONNECTIVITY
The general objectives of these two interventions are to expand the cycling network in the eastern part of the city, contribute to traffic calming and improve the connectivity of the different sections of existing bike lanes in Salburua to provide coherence to the cycling network.
The works planned on the Salburua boulevard will, in fact, close the entire axis of cyclist mobility that starts on Florida street and continues along Paseo de la Iliada, Salburua boulevard and Paseo de los Humedales to end at the Buesa Arena .
