UDINE. Perhaps the most precious jewel of regional viticulture, the Jermann winery, ends up in the orbit of Antinori, another prestigious winery of international standing. The news, a real “bomb” in the oenology of Friuli Venezia Giulia, was made official last night and the specialized website Winenews gave the news. Antinori, the first private reality of Italian wine and one of the most important brands in the world, has acquired the majority of one of the rarest pearls of Italian winemaking, namely Jermann, a historic label and signature of iconic whites such as Vintage Tunina, which over the years it has won awards. Jermann is also an economic powerhouse, as it boasts a turnover of over 12 million euros (first among non-cooperative producers), as well as a state-of-the-art winery in Ruttars.
The agreement reached by the owner Silvio Jermann, who has been running the family business for 40 years, and by the Antinori family, provides for the sale of the majority shares of the House del Collio, for an economic consideration, the value of which has remained reserved. “The collaboration with Antinori – Jermann told Winenews – is a new beginning, a decision taken to better face the times we live in, in the name of family tradition”. «We share with Silvio – echoes the new owner Piero Antinori – the same values of respect for family tradition, passion for challenges, respect for the land. Our desire is to guarantee development and continuity in full collaboration with Silvio and with what he has done in these 40 years ». Rumors of possible sale had already been associated with the name Jermann in the recent past, but then nothing had been concretized. Now, after the terrible year marked by the pandemic, the turning point. A few months ago the Friulian winery had also renewed its managerial staff.
The Jermann company was founded in 1881 by the forefather Anton, and then led by subsequent generations up to Angelo (who passed away in December 2018 at the age of 95) and his son Silvio, an oenologist of great caliber and creator of Vintage Tunina, a wine he consecrated the Friulian brand in the world. A reality of absolute value and of important dimensions, given that it has 200 hectares of land (all in the Collio and Isonzo Docs), 170 vineyards, of which 20 already under organic conditions, between the first winery of Villanova di Farra di Isonzo and that of Ruttars, in the Municipality of Dolegna. With the acquisition of Jermann, Marchesi Antinori expands its collection of brands, which already includes companies such as Tignanello, Badia a Passignano, Pèppoli, Antinori in Chianti Classico, Pian delle Vigne in Montalcino, Tenuta Guado al Tasso in Bolgheri, Montenisa in Franciacorta. , Prunotto in Piedmont, Castello della Sala in Umbria, in addition to shopping around the world, above all Antica and Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars in Napa Valley. –
