A new study at the Center Hospitalier Universitaire (CHU) Angers (France) confirms that vitamin D supplementation reduces the risk of severe forms of Covid-19, especially in the elderly.
In January last year, 73 experts (nephrologists, geriatricians, rheumatologists, endocrinologists, general practitioners) and several companies in these fields called for vitamin D supplementation in the French population with a well-defined goal: to reduce the risk of severe forms of Covid-19.
In fact, the study by experts at CHU Angers confirms other studies, such as the one published in the journal Plus One in February 2022, conducted in Israel, which shows that mortality is higher among people with vitamin D deficiency.
A new study, COVIT-TRIAL, published on May 31 this year in the journal Plos Medicine, demonstrates the benefits of using vitamin D in case of infection.
The same message comes from Trinity College Dublin and the University of Edinburgh: a sufficient intake of vitamin D could protect against severe forms of Covid-19 and therefore reduce the risk of death.
Professor Cedric Annweiler of CHU Angers says there is clear evidence of the benefit of vitamin supplementation during the first three days of detecting Covid-19 in the elderly, vulnerable people.
Vitamin from the Sun.
Doctors point out that vitamin D supplementation is helpful, but it is not a miracle cure. The best way to get a “supply” of vitamin D is to be exposed to the sun. Thus, 70% to 80% of the vitamin D supplied to the body is produced by the skin under the action of UV rays emitted by the Sun.
Therefore, the doctors’ recommendation is as follows: daily, at least 30 minutes of “Sun”, between 10 am and 3 pm, exposing the face, legs, arms, so that we can even make reserves of vitamin D for the cold season.
