Vitamin D Corona 19 mortality rate reduced by 60, double dexamethasone

A study found that the mortality rate of patients hospitalized for Corona 19 who administered vitamin D was significantly lowered.

The UK’s Daily Telegraph and Mirror reported on the 14th (local time) that, citing the results of a study at the University of Barcelona, Spain, administering high-dose vitamin D to hospitalized COVID-19 patients could reduce the mortality rate by 60%.

The researchers administered 5 doses of calcifediol containing vitamin D to 551 of the Corona 19 patients admitted to the Del Mar hospital in Barcelona, gradually increasing the dose interval to 2, 4, 8, and 15 days. As a result, 36 (6.5%) of patients receiving calcifediol died, while 57 (15%) of 379 control patients died.

“The rapid administration of calcifediol is important for lowering mortality,” the researchers stressed. It is explained that the administration of calcifediol to intensive care unit patients does not appear to be effective, so it is highly effective if it is administered quickly to hospitalized patients.

Telegraph analyzed that the effect of high-dose vitamin D in lowering the mortality rate of corona19 patients is twice that of dexamethasone, an immunomodulatory drug.

Dexamethasone is evaluated to reduce the mortality rate of patients with Corona 19 by 30%.

Vitamin D is synthesized in the body through skin exposed to the sun’s ultraviolet rays. Among foods, fatty fish (salmon, tuna, mackerel), liver, egg yolk, and cheese are found.
