– Zelenskyj is paying for his mistakes, says Kyiv mayor and former world heavyweight boxing champion, Vitalij Klitschko, to 20 minutes.
In two recent interviews with the Swiss newspaper and the German Der Spiegel, Klitschko comes out harshly against President Volodymyr Zelenskyi’s handling of the war in Ukraine.
Zelenskyi’s popularity has declined since the start of the war, according to the report The Telegraph. Equally, more than 60 percent of Ukrainians are still positive about the president.
Visible splits
Almost two years into Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine political divisions have become more and more visible in Kyiv.
Chief of Defense Valery Zaluzhny recently stated that the war is firmly on Ukraine’s part. This met with sharp opposition from President Zelenskyj, who warned both him and other generals against getting involved in political matters.
Opposite 20 minutes Klitschko defends him, calling Zelenskyi’s criticism of him unfair.
– He told the truth. Sometimes people don’t want to hear the truth, says Klitschko.

Must review
In the interview, Zelenskyj is particularly criticized for dismissing warnings that the invasion was going to happen, just days before it did.
– Many of us ask questions about why we were not better prepared for this war. Why Zelenskyy denied it was going to happen, until it did. And how was it possible for the Russians to reach Kyiv so quickly, says Klitschko to 20 Minuten.
He claims much of the information given did not reflect reality.
– The president has an important function now, and we must support him until the end of the war. But when the war ends, all politicians must pay for both success and defeat, says Klitschko.
Fears new attack wave from Russia
– Unwise
The former boxing legend is asked by the newspaper if he himself has ambitions to take over as president of Ukraine.
– It would not be wise for me to talk about my political ambitions now, he says 20 minutesand elaborates:
– We are fighting for the country’s freedom and independence. At the same time, there is trench warfare between our own politicians, while our country is in danger of ceasing to exist. It will be too stupid, he says to 20 Minuten.
Warning: – May receive bad news
Difficult relationship
Klitschko has always had a strained relationship with the president. However, the two have tried to put their differences aside during the war.
