Vita Mashadi: – Talks about the retouching

Influenza twins Vita and Wanda Mashadi (29) received harsh criticism earlier this year when it was revealed that they have retouched their photos on social media.

An anonymous account on Instagram began this spring to share before and after photos of the sisters – to show that they edit the photos they share with their followers. This profile has since been deleted.

The account triggered a massive storm against the twins, who eventually responded to the allegations in their own podcast “Twin therapy” in late May. Vita and Wanda Mashadi then admitted to having edited some of their photos on Instagram, and apologized if the “adjustments” had led to uncertainty among others.

Since then, the two influencers have not said anything more publicly about photo editing. But in a great interview with A-magazine Vita now tells more about how she experienced the editing scandal in May.

“Absolutely damn”

In the weeks that followed, she called the magazine “completely fucking”. In the apology in the podcast, Mashadi and his sister claimed that the images in question that were edited were old – and that the edits are far back in time.

She still stands by it:

– It is important to me that people also understand that it is old. And that there’s something I do not do now. I just have to apologize and say that it was idiotic, she says to A-magazine.

The 29-year-old is also asked why she chose to edit her photos. Mashadi has over 86,000 followers on Instagram, and has been criticized for being a bad role model, especially for young girls – many of whom are among her followers.

– The reason I have done it is probably that I am constantly exposed. Then I might have a bad day and think: “Damn, I have to post a picture today, because if not, I have three ads in a row.”, She says to A-magazine.

She adds:

– Then I might choose a picture where it is like this: “It’s really nice, if I do not have that dent on my arm.” How damn idiotic it is, yes! It took me two seconds to remove that dent, and then the picture was suddenly a little better. Maybe people do not bother to comment on some shit about my arm now, sort of?

Mashadi also says that she supports the labeling of retouched images, including on advertising images, which the new part of the Marketing Act now requires to do.

Dagbladet has been in contact with Vita Mashadi. She has no further comment on the case.

– That is right

As mentioned, it was an anonymous account on Instagram that first drew attention to the sisters Mashadi’s photo editing practice. The person behind the account wrote on Instagram that the purpose of the account was “to crack down on unhealthy body ideals”, according to VG.

Original photos and edited photos of Vita and sister Wanda Mashadi were shared on the account, to show that the photos had been edited.

In their podcast in May, the twins claimed that they had only edited a few photos, and that this is a long time ago.

– It is true that some of our photos back in time have been edited, and we do not want in any way to downplay the editing of photos, even though it is unfortunately an industry problem even today. At the same time, I think it is very important to keep your tongue straight in your mouth when you claim that something has been edited, Vita said in the podcast.

The influencers were also surprised that the Instagram account in question exclusively criticized them, and no other influencers in the country. The person behind VG’s account himself stated that he experienced the Mashadi sisters as the worst in photo editing, and that they thus also received the most publicity.
