REPORT: It might seem strange to the rest of the country, but the village of Slapy is located in the district of Praha-západ. You can get there from the center of the metropolis in about an hour by car. We went to the place on Friday, when the roads were practically empty.

It was not only thanks to the summer holidays, but also two public holidays. These were published on Wednesday and Thursday. So the last working day really turned into a so-called little Saturday. And literally.

We spent two days at Slapy. During that time, temperatures climbed to unbearable heights, but almost no one complained. The local water reservoir was very busy, the majority of visitors were mainly Prague residents.

It emerged from a number of interviews that they also decide on prices for recreation.

Because we write about food regularly, we know the amounts almost by heart. Little surprises us. We can easily compare the amounts in Slapy with those in Prague. Pickled ermine costs 95 crowns, carp fries cost 180 crowns, regular fries with ketchup cost 70 crowns. A bun with onions and bread cost 110 crowns, a grilled sausage cost 120 crowns. We got bread and cucumber as a side dish.

We liked almost everything.

However, family lunch and dinner will cost a lot of money. Especially when someone orders snacks from the grill. Grilled mackerel with bread costs 280 crowns, as does pork knee. For 220 crowns you get chicken drumsticks or steak with fries.

The food stand was not bursting at the seams.

Adjacent spaces quite yes.

The most common topic of conversation? Money

Living here is perfect. Stará Živohošť offers table tennis, a laser shooting range, petanque, table football, as well as a multifunctional court with an artificial surface for tennis, netball, and volleyball. Some activities are free, others are paid. You can rent a paddleboard, all kinds of paddle boats or boats. There were quite a few of them on the surface.

Nová Živohošť invites you to take a trip by steamboat, but also to visit Konopiště or the nearby Radíč Castle.

The entrance to the beach can be considered symbolic. Adults pay 70 kroner, a dog costs 40 kroner, and so do children and seniors. Children under the age of three pay nothing. Car parking costs 80 crowns, motorbikes 60 crowns.

Prices are usually not discussed on vacation. At Slapy, yes. Whenever we got on the phone with someone, it ended up being about groceries, school supplies, and Social Security. One man even told us that although he is thirty-five, as a self-employed person he does not pay the mandatory amounts for health and social insurance. They say there would be nothing left for the children. He also refused the local lunch. He had his. “The children eat what they want, I don’t save on them. Already noticeable. I’ll have two beers and I’m done,” he revealed with a towel over his face.

Friday’s temperatures reached the thirties, Saturday’s slightly exceeded them.

We must emphasize order and cleanliness. There were no leftovers, garbage, papers lying around. The bar and its surroundings were clean.

We won’t be the first to recommend Slapy. They are easily accessible for the people of Prague. Which was also the reason why many families pack up around six o’clock and go home, only to return the next day. There was enough space everywhere.

About two kilometers further we discovered another stall. A grilled neck cost 180 crowns, they had a hamburger with fries for 265 crowns, a trout fillet (150 grams) cost 259 crowns, and a sausage from a local smokehouse cost 130 crowns. Salads cost between 130 – 199 crowns. One slice of bread, which we did not come across for a long time, was available for eight crowns.
