Visitation in the Grein deanery

A visitation is traditionally a visit by the bishop to a parish. In the diocese of Linz, the bishop and a team of visitors visit an entire deanery for a week. Bishop Manfred Scheuer, Vicar General Severin Lederhilger and Brigitte Gruber-Aichberger will be in the Grein deanery for the 22nd visitation from October 6th to 12th, 2024. You want to meet as many people as possible and get to know life in the parishes and the various church institutions or groups.

Visit to kindergarten in Bad Kreuzen

The visitation began on Sunday, October 6, 2024, with church services with the visitators in the parishes of Saxen, Grein and Pabneukirchen as well as a star pilgrimage to the pilgrimage church of Maria am Anger (Dimbach parish) with joint prayer and subsequent opportunity to meet.

On October 7, 2024, Bishop Manfred Scheuer visited the community kindergarten in Bad Kreuzen. He was accompanied by Johann Fehrerhofer, dean in Bad Kreuzen. Right at the beginning, Bishop Scheuer talked to the children in a large group and talked about his tasks as bishop. Saint Nicholas was also a bishop, Scheuer explained. The bishop’s miter (“bishop’s hat”), which the children were allowed to try on, and the large bishop’s staff aroused great interest. After getting to know each other, Bishop Scheuer celebrated a harvest festival together with the children and the kindergarten staff. Bishop Scheuer and Dean Fehrerhofer were presented with a self-made sunflower as part of the celebration. At the end of the Thanksgiving feast, Bishop Scheuer blessed one large candle for the kindergarten and four smaller candles for each of the kindergarten groups.

The community kindergarten in Bad Kreuzen is run by Karin Grabmann. It was an exciting experience, especially for the children, to get to know the bishop. And the team also saw the visit as a sign of recognition, says Grabmann. The staff includes seven kindergarten teachers and eight teaching assistants. 75 children, divided into four kindergarten groups, go to kindergarten. All children come directly from the Bad Kreuzen community.

Meeting with the mayors of the region

On the afternoon of October 7th, the visitators Bishop Manfred Scheuer, Brigitte Gruber Aichberger, Caritas director Franz Kehrer and Reinhold Prinz met with mayors of the region in the parish hall in St. Nikola. Dean Johann Fehrerhofer and dean’s assistant Josef Rathmaier were also there.

The deanery includes the parishes of Bad Kreuzen, Dimbach, Grein, Klam, Pabneukirchen, Saxen, St. Georgen am Walde, St. Nikola an der Donau, St. Thomas am Blasestein and Waldhausen im Strudengau. The conversation discussed current challenges in the region. Bishop Manfred Scheuer praised the good cooperation between parishes and political communities.
