Visit to the “Rakši” camel park: llamas, alpacas, camels and now also lemurs

It all started in 2006 when the first lama was brought in, Mr. Mousier, who is now a respectable retiree of more than 20 years. The first animals arrived here because the owners were hoping to draw attention to the guest house. Kristaps saw lamas on the “Animal Planet” show and, as he puts it, fell in love with them. This is how the idea of bringing them to Latvia was born, even though these animals are native to South America.

The ancient Indians have been growing alpaca wool for thousands of years because it is very valuable.

As already mentioned, the lama Moussier arrived for the first time in “Rakšos”, while Don the alpaca arrived a few years later. Both llamas and alpacas are camelids.

On the other hand, camels – both one-humped and two-humped – joined later. Kristaps bought the first camels in 2008, but now “Rakšos” has about 20 camels. Did you know that a camel can live up to 50 years and drink 100 liters of water in minutes? A camel can carry a load of 400 kilograms. You will learn these and other interesting facts in the “I Love My Pet” program.

Wondering how animals get such sounding Latvian names, Kristaps says the calendar comes in handy when giving names – the day the animal is born, its name is also searched for.

This year another dream came true in “Rakšo” and here came the cat lemurs, whose homeland is Madagascar. And they please everyone, owners and visitors, because everyone can feed them.

In the “I love my pet” program, sincere stories of friendship and love are provided, which will delight adults and children, while experienced experts will teach you how to care for animals. Touching life stories, fateful encounters and creatures that rustle, bark, meow and ring. Watch the program on TV3 on Saturdays at 6.45pm, but all programs you will find TV3Play here.
