- During this visit, the tour ranged from an observation and control platform to the current tunnel work
The cables for the suspension bridge have been stretched across the Danube since the end of December 2021. The anchor blocks on both banks of the Danube, to which the steel cables are attached and which will carry the 13,000-ton pillar-free suspension bridge, have already been completed. The construction work is now devoted entirely to the 3,200 meter long tunnel section, which includes the connection points for the ascent and descent to the bridge.
The tunnel itself extends 500 meters to the south and 250 meters to the north into the mountain. The concreting work for the so-called tunnel inner shell will be completed by summer 2023. After that, the installation of the electrotechnical equipment is on the agenda for about ten months. The suspension bridge crossing the Danube should be completed by ASFINAG for traffic release by autumn 2024. This relieves traffic on the Nibelungenbrücke, while at the same time creating a connection point to the B 129 Eferdingerstrasse and B 127 Rohrbacherstrasse.
“An exciting and very impressive visit, which once again showed the immense planning and precision behind it. A big thank you goes to the ASFINAG employees, who push ahead with the planned construction work every day and deliver top performance in order to be able to complete the fourth Linz Danube bridge on schedule,” said Mayor Klaus Luger, Deputy Mayor Karin Hörzing and City Councilor Dietmar Prammer in unison.
