The Belgian royal couple, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, are visiting Germany in December. They will also come to the Saxon state capital Dresden. The Federal President’s Office announced this on Thursday.
The state visit is scheduled to take place from December 5th to 7th. At the beginning, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde are to be received with military honors at Berlin’s Bellevue Palace, the official residence of Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. In the evening there will be a state banquet in Bellevue Palace.
Visit to the chip factory and the Christmas market
After further appointments in Berlin on Wednesday, December 6th, the royal visit will then continue to Dresden on Thursday. A tightly scheduled program awaits you there.
At 10:30 a.m. they will first visit the semiconductor manufacturer X-Fab. We continue with lunch with the Saxon Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU). Afterwards, a walk across Dresden’s Augustus Bridge is on the agenda.
First state visit to Germany
At 2 p.m. Philippe and Mathilde visit the Old Masters Picture Gallery in Dresden, then we continue to the famous Frauenkirche. The Belgian royals will end their visit to Dresden at the historic Christmas market at the Frauenkirche.
According to the Federal President’s Office, this is the first state visit of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde to Germany. The Belgian royal couple have been married since 1999 and have four children together. Philippe became King of Belgium in 2013 after his father, King Albert II, abdicated.
