Goalscorer visits the Geißbockheim: Anthony Modeste stopped by 1. FC Köln before the derby against Fortuna Düsseldorf and talked about his current situation. The clubless striker does not want to end his career just yet.
A familiar laughter echoed across the parking lot of the Geißbockheim as 1. FC Cologne set off for Düsseldorf on Friday evening: Anthony Modeste paid his former teammates a surprise visit and ensured many beaming faces as they left before the Rhineland derby against Fortuna (2:2).
Former teammates like Dominique Heintz and Marvin Schwäbe gave the Frenchman a warm hug and had a quick chat before the shortest away trip of the season. However, Modeste didn’t offer any tips. “I just said hello to the guys,” the 36-year-old reported afterwards with a smile.
Modeste: “I’ll see what happens”
He is currently enjoying his vacation, Modeste told GEISSBLOG. As is well known, the striker has been without a club since his contract with Egyptian record champions Al Ahly, with whom he won the African Champions League, ended. He has been without a club for almost three months now.
“I’m keeping myself fit in Cologne and I’ll see what happens,” revealed Modeste, who scored a total of 79 competitive goals for FC from 2015 to 2017 and from 2018 to 2022. He is not yet thinking about ending his career. “No, no,” the veteran answered the question and assured: “I’m fit!”
When and where he will be chasing goals again seems to be completely unclear. Modeste had spoken of inquiries from Europe when he left Egypt. There was apparently no suitable offer. He still has time to visit his former colleagues at the Geißbockheim and to walk his dog through the green belt.
