Visit Sunset Strip – Hotspot in Los Angeles, Hollywood …

1.5 miles of fame and history in the heart of West Hollywood.

In the 1920s, people were drinking there quietly during Prohibition; in the 60s, the counter-culture broke out there and he saw protests unfold; in the 70s, the biggest names in rock rocked their hair on the stages of its clubs; today, this is where we find some of the most beautiful rooftops in Los Angeles and a bustle day and night. Welcome to the Sunset Strip, or 1.5 miles of excess, anecdotes and glamor in the heart of West Hollywood.

The Strip, 2.4 km of history (s)

Sunset Boulevard, it is one of the most famous axes of The Angels, which stretches from Downtown Los Angeles (at Figeroa St) to the ocean, where it plunges to the level of the PCH. The boulevard roughly runs along the mountains and passes through different neighborhoods, for about 35 km.

Of these 35 km, only 2.4 hold our attention: the ” Strip », Which for decades brings together the essentials of the boulevard, restaurants and bars frequented by the biggest celebrities, clubs and concert halls which have seen the biggest celebrities parade on their stages, high-end hotels and shops … In short, a glamorous version of Los Angeles.

It all started because this portion of Sunset Boulevard called the Strip was not included in the Los Angeles limits, so did not fall under the jurisdiction of the city. It is the sheriff who was in charge of ensuring the safety of the neighborhood, and not the LAPD, then authorizing behavior that would not have been in Los Angeles (casinos, nightclubs, prostitution, etc. .). Today, the Strip stretches from Havenhurst Drive to Sierra Drive.

The Strip, 2.4 km of parties and glamor

Sunset Strip, so it was the place to be for revelers: clubs were born side by side, where alcohol flowed freely during Prohibition. The well-known and well-off Angels met there in the 1930s and 1940s, in clubs such as the essential Trocadero, then one of the most famous clubs in the world, the Ciro’s or the Mocambo – all missing today.

In the 60s and 70s, the places were invaded by rock stars: Led Zep, Guns N ‘Roses, Van Halen, The Byrds or even The Doors (which was also the group in residence) all met at the ‘unavoidable Whisky a Go Go. The Doors who, before igniting the Whiskey, were the regular group of The London Fog, another strip club a few meters from the Whiskey.

Owned by Lou Adler, the Roxy saw the parade of Genesis and Peter Gabriel, Bob Marley & The Wailers, The Ramones, Gun’s N ‘Roses and had John Lennon and Alice Cooper among its regulars. Less lucky, the club Pandora’s Box had only 5 years of glory before having to close, due to the noise and the many parties that degenerated there.

More recently, we can cite clubs like The Viper Room, renowned for its co-owner until 2004 – Johnny (Depp) -, and for having been the location of the talented River Phoenix’s very last night in ’93.

The Strip, 2.4 km of cocktails and rooftops

In addition to seeing bands and the biggest rock stars parade, Sunset Strip also satisfies lovers of quieter evenings and nights near the stars.

On the same model as the club opened in London in 55, SoHo House West Hollywood welcomes great creative profiles, and reserves its sublime terrace with a view of the city for a few (big) lucky ones. More accessible, the Sunset Tower Hotel – formerly known as St Jame’s Club and The Argyle – represents all that art deco does most beautiful. Now listed in the register of historical monuments, the hotel houses the Tower Bar, where the local stars rush.

Always higher always more beautiful, the Skybar of the Mondrian Hotel is electrified at the beginning (or at the end) of the evening, where having a drink around the swimming pool with a view of the city which falls asleep has a little taste of paradise.

Even more stars and more history? Look no further than Chateau Marmont, the reference since the 1930s, where celebrities gathered to spend the night in Hollywood in a haven of peace and tranquility. You can find it in a room or in a small bangalow or cottage, and you only have to leave the tranquility of your hiding place to go and sip a cocktail at the intimate hotel bar or dine at its restaurant.

The Strip, 1.5 miles of shops and restaurants

We don’t just go out on the strip. Of course, most people who set foot there have that in mind, but some flock to shopping. We warmly recommend the Sunset Plaza, with its collection of luxury boutiques stuck together, guaranteeing a pure moment of shopping.

For carnivores, go to the Saddle Ranch Chop House, where the atmosphere is rock to perfection – with even
