The Mayor of Kordelio-Evosmou, Lefteris Alexandridis, highlighted a series of problems plaguing the municipality, with main reference to the understaffing of municipal services.
During the visit, Mr. Alexandridis emphasized to the deputy minister that the KEP of Eleftherios – Kordelios is the first in attendance in the prefecture of Thessaloniki, which further burdens the already reduced staffing. “The understaffing of municipal services, especially in critical functions such as KEPs, is a serious problem. The workers are making superhuman efforts to serve the large volume of citizens’ requests, despite the adverse conditions,” said the mayor.
The deputy minister, for his part, expressed his satisfaction with the work being carried out in the municipality and in the KEP of Eleftherios – Kordelios. He referred to the improvement of services, thanks to upgraded equipment acquired through European funds, noting that this resulted in increased service speeds. However, he admitted that understaffing is an issue that needs to be addressed, promising that manpower reinforcements will soon be in place.
After the visit to the KEP, the Minister of State, accompanied by Mr. Alexandridis, walked through the main streets of Eleftherios – Kordelios and Evosmos, where he talked with citizens, listening to their problems and concerns. “I am very happy to be in the Municipality of Kordelio – Evosmos. I listened to the issues raised by the mayor and the workers and we will try to find the best solutions,” said the deputy minister.
Mr. Alexandridis expressed his gratitude to the deputy minister, underlining that with his help, the local government will continue to offer the best possible services to the citizens. “The support of Mr. Spanakis is valuable for our region. His promise to strengthen the staff in the KEPs gives us hope that we will be able to respond to the increased needs of the citizens”, concluded the mayor.
Mr. Spanakis’ visit concluded with discussions on the challenges facing the municipalities, as well as the upcoming changes that will be brought about by the new local government bill.
