Visit of Charles III to Australia: an Australian acts “in an abusive and threatening manner” towards His Majesty

An Australian native acted, this Tuesday, October 22, 2024, in Sydney, “in an abusive and threatening manner”, towards His Majesty Charles III of England who was visiting Australia.

Indigenous Australian activist Wayne Wharton was arrested and removed from public view this Tuesday, October 22, 2024, well before King Charles III and his wife, Queen Camilla, greeted the crowd in Parramatta, a central suburb of Sydney .

According to the police, the nationalist acted “in an abusive and threatening manner and had failed to comply with two orders to leave” the premises.

The royal visit was “a slap in the face to every decent Aboriginal and fair-minded person in Australia who has tried to make a living,” Mr Wharton told the News Agency (PA) after his action.

Mr. Wharton, aged 60, was then charged with failing to comply with a police order and will appear in court on November 5.

A day earlier, on Monday, King Charles was heckled in the Australian Parliament by a senator.

“You have committed genocide against our people,” she shouted. “Give us what you stole from us — our bones, our skulls, our babies, our people. You have destroyed our land. Give us a treaty. We want a treaty,” Senator Lidia Thorpe also chanted before being escorted out of the parliamentary reception which was organized on behalf of the royal couple.

However, the British monarch’s trip to Australia was cut short as he is undergoing treatment for cancer. Despite this, Charles III is expected on Wednesday in Samoa, a country constituting the western part of the Saoma Islands in Polynesia, in the south of the Pacific Ocean.
