Seiken Densetsu, or the Mana series has been anything but fallow in recent years. New releases in the form of Collection of Mana as well as remakes on Secret of Mana and Trials of Mana each has been able to both keep old fans quite satisfied and perhaps even usurp the series a little new. Just in time to Square Enix quartered off Visions of Mana during this year’s Game Awards with the delicious trailer you can see above.
Visions of Mana is the series’ first meaningful new game in 15 years (the mobile game Echoes of Mana, which shut down in May of this year, apparently doesn’t count for Squeenix either). The game will follow the series’ roots in action role-playing games with a real-time combat system. The story puts you in the role of Val, a loyal soul guard who will accompany his childhood friend on their journey to the mana tree. Once there, they must restore the flow of mana and restore balance to the world.
And with this dots Visions of Mana of about the same list as Tales of Symphony (and countless other siblings within the genre). However, the Tales of games don’t have Airi Yoshioka’s gorgeous environment art, nor its main composer Hiroki Kikuta (who here gets boosted by the capable Tsuyoshi Sekito [Snatcher] och Ryo Yamazaki [Balan Wonderworld]).
Visions of Mana will be released sometime in 2024 on PlayStation 4–5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Windows, Steam).
