Vision Expo East 2022 in early April was the first Vision Expo show in New York City since 2019, finally bringing the eyewear industry from the US and beyond together under one roof. The fair included more than 360 exhibiting companies in various areas and training opportunities.

“It has been incredible to bring the eye care community together in New York City for the first time since 2019. The exhibit floor was buzzing with activity and the energy was palpable, especially on day one, as motivated attendees and exhibitors engaged with their peers, doing business and engaging with the educational offerings,” said Fran Pennella, Vice President, Vision Expo, at RX global, co-organizer of Vision Expo. “Of course none of this would have been possible without the support and commitment of all our attendees, exhibitors and partners – we are very grateful to everyone who attended this year’s event.”

Again a full program

“The Bridge”, the main stage of the Vision Expo Easthosted the Eye2Eye Series, a series of discussion boards on topics such as fashion trend forecasting, metaverse and cryptocurrencies, moderated by fashion innovator and author Dapper Dan.

The Career Zone-Student Lounge, a place for students to connect with optical companies actively recruiting and explore career resources, also returned to Vision Expo East.

Additionally, the winner of the OPTImum Retail Award – Black Optical – was announced and celebrated during a reception at Vision Expo East. The award recognizes independent retailers and showcases their products, businesses, vision and stories.

The Vision Choice Award, which recognizes the best new product at Vision Expo East, went to Zeiss for the company’s PhotoFusion X Lenses.

Now: showcase for eyewear trends

Now by Vision Expo, a new showcase for eyewear trends, showcased a curated selection of eyewear from more than 80 exhibiting companies. The program is intended to go beyond eyewear at future shows and also showcase products, technology and equipment.

“We created Now by Vision Expo to show where our industry is today and what trends we should be focusing on in the coming year,” said Nico Roseillier, creative director of Europe/State Optical Co./American Optical. “It was gratifying to see how everything came together and to hear the feedback from the participants. Now will be back next year and will have even more to offer.”

“It’s been an amazing few days in New York City. We were thrilled to see so many of our members in person – doing business, learning, forming new relationships and sharing with longtime colleagues,” said Mitch Barkley, vice president of Trade Shows and Events by The Vision Councilco-organizer of Vision Expo.
