Viscokis-Rubenis takes over the corner of “Liepāja” – Basketball – Apollo.lv – Sports

It has already been reported that Visockis-Rubenis could take over the corner of the basketball club “Liepāja”.

Rumors made earlier on Saturday became a reality, telling the club that the agreement with the coach was signed for more than one season.

“We have attracted one of the best specialists of the new generation, who has already achieved good results, leading such teams as” Ogre “and” Ventspils “, and has worked with great experience as an assistant in various Latvian national units. Our goals and thoughts coincide with the coach’s vision, we want to develop new players, as well as to attract Liepaja residents, “said the president of the unit Āris Ozoliņš.

Visockis-Rubenis himself was satisfied with the opportunity to train another Kurzeme club.

“I am really happy and honored to work in a city with such a rich not only cultural and artistic space, but also with such an ancient history of basketball. I am honored to have this opportunity and be a part of Liepaja,” said the specialist. “We are already working hard to restore Liepāja’s basketball reputation as a really positive and professional basketball organization that the players want to come to. I think Kaspars Mājenieks has done a very good job with the women’s team and we have to go the same way for men’s. In basketball, you don’t have to think again. Seeing the enthusiasm and ability of the people involved in the club, I believe that together we will succeed. “

Last season, 34-year-old Visockis-Rubenis led the titled “Ventspils” team, which took fourth place at the end of the Latvian-Estonian Basketball League tournament, but stopped in the FIBA European Cup in the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, after the withdrawal of the Valga-Valka team from the combined league, the people of Liepaja were the last among the 14 remaining teams in the table. Since November, the wind city unit has been headed by Serbian specialist Bransislav Vicenti.

Visockis-Rubenis started his coaching career in professional basketball in 2011, when he became the head coach of the University of Latvia, but in 2016 he joined the Ogre team, which last year took him to bronze medals.

Visockis-Rubenis has led Latvian youth teams of several age groups. Under his leadership, the Latvian U-18 national team won silver medals at the European Championship in Riga last year, starting a year later in the U-19 World Cup.

In 2015, the coach also led the Latvian U-16 youth team, where he won the 11th place in the European Championship. He has also worked as an assistant head coach of the Latvian men’s basketball team and has also helped the women’s national team.

In 2018, the coach was awarded as the best basketball coach of the Year in Latvia, receiving the award of the Latvian Basketball Union.

Under the leadership of Visock-Rubenis, this summer several individual basketball players of the Latvian national team are conducting individual trainings.
