In response to the effects of DANA that hit eastern Spain on October 29, Grupo Visán, a company dedicated to pet food, has activated support measures for people and animals affected by the emergency.
Without a doubt, the priority is people. But after the impact of DANA in Valencia, a new alert has emerged: the situation of abandonment and starvation of many animals. Currently, pets missing or in extreme situations due to lack of supplies number in the dozens.
Many of them belong to individuals, but the vast majority come from shelters, sanctuaries and shelters that have been devastated after the passage of DANA.
A call to action
The Visán Group, through the General Directorate of Animal Rights, belonging to the
The Ministry of Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2030, and local associations, calls for a call to action: “our contribution is not enough to alleviate the situation of many associations, families and protectors,” explains Javier Sancho, general director of Grupo Visán .
Numerous animal shelters and shelters have launched an urgent appeal for help, as food, water, blankets, medication and safe places to move affected animals are needed. From the Foundation for Advice and Action in Defense of Animals (FAADA), they have published a list of the affected animal shelters and shelters, which already exceeds 50 centers.
Sending aid
Through the General Directorate of Animal Rights, as well as in close collaboration with local entities, Visan made the first shipment of aid last Friday, which together with another shipment made this week, will add a total of 16,000 kg of food for dogs and cats. This aid has headed to BIOPARC, established as the main collection point for aid to animals affected by DANA in Valencia.
Additionally, Grupo Visán has collaborated with the Cáritas and Spanish Red Cross organizations to provide economic support to families in vulnerable situations due to this catastrophe. This financial support will help cover basic products and essential materials, such as food, clothing, and hygiene and cleaning products, for people affected by the disaster.
“With this action we do not intend to arrogate any merit to ourselves, only to stimulate a call to action from any company or organization that can contribute its grain of sand, since the situation of many animals is truly dramatic,” says the CEO of Visán. They thus show their commitment to society and animal welfare, and demonstrate that companies can play a fundamental role in building a more supportive and sustainable future.
