There is a large corona outbreak in Steinkjer municipality in Trøndelag.
The first person to be diagnosed with the virus in the current outbreak is said to have been diagnosed with the California variant of the coronavirus.
This is what the municipal chief physician in Steinkjer, Sunniva Rognerud, told NRK on Tuesday morning.
– We have only received answers to an analysis sample. It was the very first test that was the California variant. We have not yet received an answer to the other tests, says Rognerud.
20 percent more contagious
The California variant (B.1.427 / B.1.429) is estimated to be 20 percent more contagious than the first corona variant, according to California Institute of Public Health.
There is reason to believe that this is the first proven case of this virus variant in Norway.
NIPH provides weekly coronary reports. This virus variant has not yet been mentioned.
A total of 36 people have been registered infected in the outbreak in Steinkjer which started last week. About 2,500 people are in quarantine.
The municipality does not know the routes of infection.

Not since Sunday has Steinkjer municipality come up with updated figures on the number of infected.
The samples must be sent from Steinkjer to St. Olav’s hospital in Trondheim for analysis, because the capacity has been blown up at Levanger Hospital.
1000 tests from Steinkjer are in line for analysis now. Mayor Anne Berit Lein expects many to return positive.
Steinkjer has introduced very strict measures to reduce the outbreak in the municipality.
All outdoor and indoor events are prohibited. Fitness center, swimming pools and shopping center will be closed. In addition, a red level has been introduced in all schools and home teaching is carried out from 5th grade and upwards.
