The coronavirus is still active in New Aquitaine. This is what emerges from the weekly epidemic point, published on the Public Health France website. Several indicators continue to increase: number of cases, incidence rate, positivity rate, hospitalizations… Here is the detail.
The incidence rate explodes in people over 75
Between January 11 and 17, the region recorded 9,066 new cases of Covid. They were 8153 the previous week. Likewise, the time of incidence fell from 93.8 cases per 100,000 inhabitants during the last week of December, to 135.9 between January 4 and 10. It now stands at 151.1 in all age groups. That is an increase of 11% compared to the previous week.
The increase is greatest among those over 75 (+ 30%) with an incidence rate of 199.6 / 100,000.
The lowest rate in Charente-Maritime
This indicator has increased in the majority of the departments of Nouvelle-Aquitaine, and particularly in Dordogne (+ 45%); in Charente (+ 35%) and in Lot-et-Garonne (+ 26%). On the other hand, it remains stable in Haute-Vienne, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques and in the Landes. It is always in Charente-Maritime that it is the lowest (112.2 / 100,000) and the highest in Deux-Sèvres (268.1).
Same dynamic on the side of the positivity rate of screening tests. It went from 5.2% in the first week of January to 5.8% between January 11 and 17. Despite a drop this week, it remains particularly high in the 0–14 age group (7.6%). It is on the rise among those over 75, reaching 6%.
A third of patients hospitalized in Gironde
1,317 patients were hospitalized in the region on January 19, compared to 1,182 the previous week. On the same date, 172 people were in intensive care, a stable figure. 74% of hospitalized patients are over 70 years old. A third of the patients are hospitalized in Gironde.
Finally, 117 new deaths were recorded during this second week of January, bringing the total to 2,065 in the region since January 2020.
More than 104,000 people vaccinated
Otherwise, the Ministry of Health said on Friday that 963,139 people were vaccinated in France, including a little over 104,000 in the region alone. In summary, 1.7% of neo-Aquitaine have been vaccinated since the start of the campaign.
