Virus: seventh death attributed to Covid-19, number of active cases drops to 98

The death of Shariff Gungah, who tested positive, has been attributed to Covid-19. This is therefore the seventh death linked to the new coronavirus in Mauritius since March 5, 2021.

This is indicated in a press release from the Ministry of Health issued this Monday morning, April 26. “A patient died yesterday following health complications linked to Covid-19”, explains the supervisory ministry.

Aged 76, Shariff Gungah died at ENT Hospital. He had been placed on artificial respiration. Shariff Gungah was part of the Forest-Side cluster.

Other information communicated by the Ministry of Health: no new cases of Covid-19 contamination at the local level have been recorded during the past 24 hours.

462 patients considered to be cured were able to return home.

Since March 5, 574 cases of local contamination have been detected in Mauritius as follows:

• 417 cases recorded following Contact Tracing and samples at COVID-19 Testing Centers

• 120 cases recorded in quarantine (negative patients on admission)

• 37 cases recorded following targeted screening

• 14 (including seven deaths attributed to Covid-19).

The number of active cases at the local level is therefore 98.
