The Polish Minister of Health announced on Wednesday containment measures from March 20 across the country, advocating teleworking as the number of coronavirus contamination breaks records.
“We ask employers to allow working from home as widely as possible”Adam Niedzielski told reporters also announcing the closure of hotels, theaters, cinemas, sports halls, as well as most stores in shopping malls between March 20 and April 9.
Pupils in the first three grades of primary education who until now were allowed to work in class will have to switch to distance education.
These measures were already in force in 4 of the 16 regions which were most affected by the pandemic.
Across the country, bars and restaurants are already closed, as students over the age of 10 have been working from home for months.
The announcement comes then the rate of daily contaminations exceeded 25,000 cases Wednesday, and according to the minister, it could soon reach 30,000 cases per day.
Such a figure could constitute “a threat” the functioning of the health system.
“The main reason is the British variant of the coronavirus”, said Mr. Niedzielski.
A total of 1,956,974 cases were recorded in Poland, a country of 38 million inhabitants (+25,052 in 24 hours), of which 48,032 died (+453).
