As of Wednesday, the ministry had already counted 642 new cases compared to Tuesday, confirming the upward curve of new cases in the peninsula.

“We are not in a position as bad as France and Spain, but the current situation is not satisfactory,” said Professor Massimo Galli, head of the department of infectious diseases at the prestigious Sacco hospital in Milan, cited by the website of the newspaper La Repubblica.

Asked about the reasons for this increase in cases, Professor Galli, a leading figure in Italy, believes that “the end of confinement has resulted in an excessive feeling of false security”. “We have to be careful, otherwise we will find ourselves facing an extremely difficult situation,” he warned.

“Travel is also a source of problems. I don’t want to look like someone who is after young people, but certain episodes struck me, for example that of these nine young people who returned (positive, editor’s note) from Croatia. Every day we receive reports of this type, ”he lamented.

“That said, I do not believe that it is only the returns from vacation that make the figures go up (…) We must also be careful of what is happening at home, the virus is still circulating”, he said. shade.

The regions with the highest number of new cases are Veneto (north, +159), Lombardy (north, +154) and Lazio (Rome region, +115).

Unlike the first wave of the virus in the peninsula, which focused on the north of the country and led the government to order a lockdown of more than two months in March, the entire national territory is this time- this concerned. No Italian region is spared.

Six people have died in the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll since the start of the pandemic to 35,418, for a total of 256,118 cases, according to the ministry’s report.
