“The Prime Minister is concerned about the smuggling of cattle and buffaloes from neighboring countries, which is a major factor in the spread of the disease, as well as unauthorized domestic movements,” Traisulee Traisaranakul said.

She stressed that animals should only be moved when necessary as directed by the Department of Livestock Development.

According to official data, Thailand is home to 6.2 million beef cattle, 707,000 dairy cattle and 1.2 million buffaloes.
