Virtually celebrates the 35th anniversary of Turaida Song Hill

Celebrating 35 years since Dainu Hill was opened in Turaida, and 20 years since the Song Garden was sung, this Sunday the celebrations take place virtually on the Facebook account of the Turaida Museum Reserve, LETA informed the museum.

Anna Jurkāne, the director of the Turaida Museum Reserve, thanks all the folklore groups and ethnographic ensembles who applied to participate in the festival “Song Hill. Freedom. The Singing Revolution” on July 5 at the Turaida Museum Reserve.

Unfortunately, Covid-19 has brought changes and it has been decided not to hold a festival in Turaida this year, because so many participants have applied that there would be more than 500 participants without visitors. Standing at a distance of two meters, it would be very difficult to sing together and fully celebrate the holiday, explains Jurkāne.

But the festival has been celebrated virtually all day on the Facebook account of the Turaida Museum Reserve, sharing recordings made at Dainu Hill concerts, festivals and events of the international folklore festival “Baltica” since 1985.

Dainu Hill, which in the years of its existence has become a symbol of the Singing Revolution, is a place where in the interaction of nature and man-made art you can emotionally learn the values recorded in folk songs, celebrate the honor of families, draw on the energy of the earth and be united. Stone sculptures by the sculptor Indulis Rankas are located on Dainu Hill, each of which is a work of art and is dedicated to Latvian folk songs.

This year’s event was planned as a national holiday to bring together the creators and supporters of Dainu Hill, singers, musicians and dancers of folklore groups, experienced storytellers and young people, each recalling their memories, sharing stories and experiences, to recall the time of awakening and unity symbolically created the Austras tree – highlighting the values that connect the past, present and future.
