Excelsior Virton has won it. The Belgian Competition Authority (BMA) has proved the football club right in its fight to obtain a professional license, which it has not yet received from the license commission. At the Pro League, they do not want to say that Virton will play in 1B next season and they are counting on the football association to appeal the decision.

The whole thing revolves around starting right for Virton in 1B, or not. All authorities were previously of the opinion that Virton was not entitled to a professional license and therefore had to be returned to the second amateur class, which is what happened.
In September, however, the Brussels Court of Appeal overturned the decision of the College of the Belgian Competition Authority not to take interim measures against the license refusal for Luxembourgers. As a result, the case had to be brought before the Competition Authority again, while the competition started weeks ago.
And now the BMA believes that the competition rules were effectively violated in Virton’s license file. The club must therefore be included in 1B next season. If not, there is a threat of compensation for the RBFA and the Pro League. In addition, Virton also demands 15 million euros because players have left the club for refusing a professional license.
But whether it will actually get that far is not at all certain. “The license commission is part of the football association, so it is not up to us to appeal. But the RBFA will appeal against this, ”says Pro League spokesman Stijn Van Bever. He did not want to have said that Virton will have to play in 1B anyway if the football association takes another blunt. “Let us first wait for the further course of the procedure.”
